Compositor e Instrumentista
Jonathan Uliel Saldanha estudou escultura na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto e dedicou-se ao estudo da tabla – instrumento de percussão indiano – com o grupo musical hindu Jugalbandi. É fundador do coletivo SOOPA, um laboratório visual, performativo e sonoro, e da editora Silorumor, membro do duo Fujako e diretor do grupo HHY & The Macumbas. Desde 2010, compôs várias peças sonoras de âmbito experimental, co-criou as peças “Boca Muralha”, “Shark” e “Rei Trilogy” e dirigiu “Jungle Machine”, “Khorus Anima”, “O Poço” e “Oxidation Machine”, apresentadas em espaços como Serralves, Teatro Municipal do Porto – Rivoli, Palais de Tokyo (Paris, França) e Accès(s) Festival. Colaborou com artistas como Carlos Zíngaro, Steve Mackay, Adrian Sherwood, Vera Mantero, Mark Stewart, João Fiadeiro entre ou- tros, e, como músico, atuou em festivais como Nyege Nyege , Unsound, Sónar, Primavera Sound, Amplifest, Out.Fest, Circular, Milhões de Festa, Neopop, Tapettefest e Elevate. Em 2019 apresentou a instalação Vocoder & Camouflage, a peça “Scotoma Cintilante”, para coro de cegos e partitura-escultura na Bienal BoCa de 2019, e “Broken Field Atlantis” um concerto com partitura de luz. Ainda em 2018, trabalho que antecede esta exposição, apresentou a referida peça “SØMA” onde um grupo de adolescentes surdos traduzem em gesto as filmagens de um tribunal animista, apresentado na Culturgest Lisboa e no Teatro Municipal do Porto: Rivoli. Paralelamente, apresentou as exposições “Behemoth Republic”, no ciclo Geometria Sónica no Arquipélago Centro de Artes de São Miguel, nos Açores e “Dismorfia”, na Universidade Católica do Porto.
Jonathan Uliel Saldanha studied sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and dedicated himself to the study of the tabla – an Indian percussion instrument – with the Hindu musical group Jugalbandi. In 2019 he presented the installation Vocoder & Camouflage, the piece “Scotoma Cintilante”, for blind choir and sculpture-score at the 2019 BoCa Biennial, and “Broken Field Atlantis”, a concert with light score. Also in 2018, a work that precedes this exhibition, he presented the aforementioned piece “SØMA” where a group of deaf teenagers translate into gesture the footage of an animist court, presented at Culturgest Lisboa and at the Teatro Municipal do Porto: Rivoli. At the same time, he presented the exhibitions “Behemoth Republic”, in the Geometria Sónica cycle at the Arquipélago Centro de Artes de São Miguel, in the Azores and “Dismorfia”, at the Catholic University of Porto.
