Compositor e instrumentista
Luís Bittencourt é músico, compositor, investigador e produtor. É considerado “um mestre da experimentação sonora” (Revista Visão), cujas performances são “uma torrente de originalidade” (Casa da Música), apresentando trabalhos de compositores internacionais e as suas próprias composições.
Bittencourt tem tocado e colaborado com Lee Ranaldo e Leah Singer (Sonic Youth), Jeffrey Ziegler (ex-Kronos Quartet), Phill Niblock, Found Sound Nation, Gabriel Prokofiev, David Cossin (Bang on a Can), Jon Rose, entre outros. O seu domínio de uma ampla variedade de estilos, desde a música erudita contemporânea até a música folclórica sul-americana e a música experimental improvisada, o destacou como um artista versátil e inovador.
Paralelamente às suas atividades como performer a solo, Bittencourt é artista-investigador do projeto “Xperimus: Experimentation in Music in Portuguese Culture: History, Contexts and Practices in the 20th and 21st centuries”, bem como investigador no INET-md. As suas investigações pioneiras ampliaram a compreensão da percussão contemporânea e da potencial instrumental de diferentes objetos e matérias sonoras.

Bittencourt has played and collaborated with Lee Ranaldo and Leah Singer (Sonic Youth), Jeffrey Ziegler (ex-Kronos Quartet), Phill Niblock, Found Sound Nation, Gabriel Prokofiev, David Cossin (Bang on a Can), Jon Rose, among others. His mastery of a wide variety of styles, from contemporary classical music to South American folk music and improvised experimental music, has set him apart as a versatile and innovative artist.
Alongside his activities as a solo performer, Bittencourt is an artist-researcher on the project "Xperimus: Experimentation in Music in Portuguese Culture: History, Contexts and Practices in the 20th and 21st centuries", as well as a researcher at INET-md. His pioneering research has broadened the understanding of contemporary percussion and the instrumental potential of different objects and sound materials.
